When you’re a dirt-poor Kansas farmer trying to eke out a living, you need the support of good neighbours. But there’s little love lost between Walter Duncan (Rogers) and his neighbour, Krab Hogan (Holliman).
Now Walter is at Krab’s mercy, as he needs Krab’s combines to harvest his wheat before an impending storm destroys the crop. But Krab will not wait for Walter’s fields to dry out after the last rainstorm and moves on to another farm, leaving Walter to watch his future wash away.
As an act of revenge, Walter goes into the harvesting business himself – in direct competition with Krab. The bitter rivalry escalates to the point where the men are about to kill each other – until Walter learns the truth about a secret that has poisoned his relationship with Krab for so many years.
